Annual Luncheon
On April 4, 2025, Friends of WVUH and Volunteer Services held the annual Friends of WVUH Annual Meeting and Volunteer Awards Luncheon.
Gift Shop Book Signing
The Friends Gift Shop at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital hosted an employee book signing. All proceeds from the book sales are used to benefit patients, their families, and employees through donations by Friends of WVU Hospitals.
Annual Golf Tournament
The Annual Friends of WVU Hospitals Golf Tournament was held on September 17, 2025 at The Pines Country Club. In total, Friends raised $26,000.
Bravo! Boo Bash
This event was held on October 1, 2025 and recognized employees and volunteers who were nominated by their colleagues for going above and beyond in their roles across WVUH.
AWVHA Annual Meetings
Volunteer Services and members of Friends of WVUH attended the annual meetings at Stonewall Resort in May 2025 and Greenbrier Resort in September 2025.
Patient Activities Program
Friends of WVUH continued to sponsor the Volunteer Services Activities Program. To support their efforts, Volunteer Services also organized 2 supply drives to help maximize available resources. In 2025, Volunteer Services was able to collect over 1,500 items in total from the drives.
WVU Medicine Children’s Atlas Project
Friends of WVUH and the Gift Shop launched the official Atlas plush in 2025. Atlas is the beloved facility dog of WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. Now the children who fall in love with him, can take home a mini-Atlas of their own. All proceeds are used to support the Atlas Facility Dog Program. The Friends Gift Shop raised a total of $737 in 2025.
Rosenbaum Family House
On May 22, 2025, Friends of WVUH was honored to help kick off 100 meals in 100 days by donating, preparing, and serving a meal at Rosenbaum Family House for the guests! Rosenbaum
provides a home away from home for adult patients and their families who are receiving medical care at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Friends of WVUH Pop-up Shops
In 2025, Friends Gift Shop organized and set up pop-up shops at some of the off-site locations such as: Enterprise Pharmacy, University Town Center, Cancer Center, and Outpatient Rehab. Organizing off-site events helped to make the WVU Medicine merchandise more accessible to a wider range of employees.
Fidget Blankets
Friends of WVUH continued to sponsor the fidget blanket project. Fidget blankets are lap sized quilts that contain items such as zippers, beads, stress balls, and pop-it toys. The blankets are hand-made by Friends board members, Bernadette Rush and Sally Hazard, along with long-time volunteer, Sabrina Bennett.
Welcome Baby Packs
Friends of WVUH continued to provide Welcome Baby Packs (a book, onesie, hat, and swaddle in a tote bag) for the WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. The program started in 2022. In 2025, Friends provided 1456 Welcome Baby Packs to new babies and their families.
WVU Medicine Children’s Gala
The Friends of WVUH donated $20,000 to sponsor the late
night buffet to benefit WVU Medicine Children’s. The event raised over $1.65 million to continue providing world-class are to West Virginia and the surrounding region.
Chalk the Walk
2026 National Hospital Week took place from May 10th to May 16th. Friends of WVUH Volunteers took to the sidewalks to spread some gratitude and encouragement for WVUH employees! Chalking the sidewalks at the employee entrances to make sure that staff felt appreciated from the minute they arrived at work.
Employee Picnic
WVU Hospitals held its Employee Appreciation Picnic July 30 and 31 at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, themed “Wizarding World of WVU Hospitals.” The Volunteer Services/Gift Shop team decorated and set up a fun and whimsical table filled with games and prizes to lift employee spirits. Prizes were donated by the Friends of WVU Hospital Board.
